James Nesbitt Anderson was the first Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the first Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Florida. He received a Bachelors of Literature from the University of Virginia in 1886 as well as a Master of Arts in 1887. He did graduate work in several institutions in the United States and Europe and received his Ph. D. in Greek, Latin, and Sanskrit from Johns Hopkins in 1894.
